About the Farm

I am a fourth-generation farmer who grew up in Litchfield County, Ct. My great-grandfather started our family's farm in the early 1900's in Torrington, Connecticut after he immigrated from Lake Como, Italy along with his wife and children. Our family lived communally on the farm and soon there was a large mix of ethnicities who influenced the agriculture, food and design of the farm.

Unfortunately, the farm was sold sometime around the late 1930s.

I grew up listening to the stories of the life of the family, what they grew, how they made their own bathing and skin care products and their love of food, art, music and antiques. To me, this would be the most magical lifestyle anyone could have. So, when the time finally came to buy my own farm, I searched throughout the Hudson Valley, NY since it was not far from the area where I grew up and knew I could build and manage the same kind of agricultural endeavor.

Here on  33-3/4 acres in a  forested  Hollow in the Catskill Foothills,  I raise emu, keep horses, and grow herbs, vegetables and flowers. Influenced by my grandmother's stories of natural skincare, I decided to grow my own flowers and herbs and include them in skin care products that are compounded by a female-run chemist in NY State. Nothing is tested on animals and are Leaping Bunny Certified. No pesticides are used in the gardens.

I love living here in the Hollow on the farm and since I am an artist and a Registered Nurse, I have the perfect canvas and experience to create healthy skin care products and to grow unusual plants and herbs. Trips to Paris and Provence have enabled me to learn the cultivation of Saffron and Lavender. Saffron is grown and processed here for cooking and is also used in our lip balms. Essential oils and signature scents are blended based on Provence classes and travels.

Art and music have always been an essential part of my life and the influences of musical and artistic friends are evident throughout the farm. The funky little store, “Flying Emu” is open in the warmer weather until December 25th. There, you will find art created by musicians who are also visual artists, Lakota Sioux-created textiles and crafts, farm-grown cut flowers and produce and of course, all of the “Farm To Beauty to Bath” Skin Care products are also sold in the online store. One of my greatest artistic influences is the musician Prairie Prince. He has graciously agreed to create the magnificent art that adorns the skin care product labels and is seen throughout the store and website. Select limited editions of his prints sold both in the store and online.

I invite you to take the time and investigate my magical shops and to try all of the naturally grown and created skin care products based on old-fashioned recipes. Learn about our animal partners who make their forever homes on the farm. Each product is named after one of our animal friends and tells the story of one of their many adventures. Alice and Gina Emu rule the roost and everything is “Emu inspected and approved”. Life here in the Hollow is peaceful, mysterious, and healthy for the mind and the soul. You can recreate the same environment for yourself. Your journey will start just as mine did, with magical stories and lovely creations from the farm.
